Bangladesh’s initial IMF request is for $1.5 billion

Bangladesh has requested US$1.5 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of a US$4.5 billion loan assistance package in the first round of the country’s application to address the consequences of climate change and its budget deficit.

This revelation was made by AHM Mustafa Kamal, the finance minister, in an interview with the Financial Times.

The IMF stated that they have not yet decided on the loan amount that will be given to Bangladesh. There is a conversation going on about the loan.

AHM Mustafa Kamal stated that in addition to the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and Japan International Cooperation Agency, Bangladesh has requested an additional US $4 billion (JICA).

In regards to obtaining the amount of loans from the donors, the finance minister voiced optimism.
