Pink diamond discovered by miners is thought to be the largest in 300 years

According to the Australian site operator, miners in Angola have discovered a rare, pure pink diamond that is thought to be the biggest discovery in 300 years.

According to a statement from the Lucapa Diamond Company to investors, a 170-carat pink diamond known as The Lulo Rose was found at the Lulo mine in the nation’s diamond-rich northeast and is one of the largest pink diamonds ever found.

The Angolan government, a partner in the mine, applauded the “historic” discovery of the Type IIa diamond, one of the rarest and purest varieties of natural stones.

“This record and spectacular pink diamond recovered from Lulo continues to showcase Angola as an important player on the world stage,” Angola’s Mineral Resources Minister Diamantino Azevedo said.

The diamond will likely be sold at a spectacular price in an international tender.

Similar pink diamonds have sold for record-breaking prices, despite the fact that The Lulo Rose would need to be cut and polished to be valued at what it is truly worth, a process that can cause a stone to lose 50% of its weight.

The 59.6 carats Pink Star was purchased for 71.2 million US dollars at a Hong Kong auction in 2017. It is still the most costly diamond to ever change hands.
