After the country’s junta hanged four detainees, including a former lawmaker from her party and a well-known pro-democracy campaigner, the party of ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi said on Monday that it was “devastated.”
“The National League for Democracy is devastated,” it said in a statement condemning the “outrageous crime” committed by the junta.
In the nation’s first use of the death penalty in decades, the junta in Myanmar has executed four convicts, including a former lawmaker from Aung San Suu Kyi’s party and a well-known campaigner, according to state media on Monday.
Widespread condemnation increased anxiety that other death sentences may be carried out, and requests for the international community to take more severe action against the already isolated junta were all brought on by the killings.
