Bangladesh, Egypt agree to identify potential markets

Bangladesh and Egypt have agreed to examine potential markets for further trade and investment as they consider future areas of collaboration.

According to a foreign ministry press statement issued today, this was discussed during a meeting between the Bangladesh state minister for foreign affairs Md. Shahriar Alam and Egyptian commerce and industry minister Nevin Gamea at her office in Cairo on Wednesday.

Shariar described Africa as a “very prospective” zone for cooperation, adding that the Bangladesh government had taken steps to boost exports to the continent. He stated that both countries are working together under D-8 to enhance mutual trade among members.

Shahriar met with Suez Canal Economic Zone CEO Engineer Yehia Zaki in his office on the same day, accompanied by the Bangladesh Ambassador to Cairo.

Bangladeshi businessmen may invest in eligible regions in the Suez Canal, according to the state minister, as the CEO welcomed Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest in the Suez Canal economic zone.

Shariar Alam expressed his delight at the introduction of direct flight connectivity between Dhaka and Cairo in a separate meeting with Egypt’s tourism and antiquities minister, A D Khaled El-Anany.

During the meeting, El-Anany stated that his government will provide Bangladeshi students with exchange opportunities in Egypt’s tourist sector.

Dr. Hala Helmy Elsaid, Egypt’s minister of planning and economic development, met with Shahriar at her office later that evening.

The state minister stated at the meeting that the Bangladesh government places a high priority on the development of relations with African countries.

The same evening, Shahrial Alam met with Egyptian chambers of commerce, apparel and textiles officials, and Egyptian entrepreneurs, inviting Egyptian investors and businesses to visit Bangladesh in order to build business and collaborate, according to the statement.
