The Bangladesh Climate and Disaster Risk Atlas was launched today by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Bangladesh Planning Commission.
The atlas, which includes geospatial maps for screening and assessing climate and disaster risk, will be a useful tool for infrastructure planning and design, hazard reduction, and climate and disaster preparedness.
According to an ADB press release, it reflects the priorities outlined in the ADB’s country partnership strategy (CPS) for Bangladesh (2021–2025) and Strategy 2030, as well as Bangladesh’s environmental sustainability and climate resilience policies and strategies.
Dr Shamsul Alam, ADB’s Vice President (Operations 1) Shixin Chen, Director General for ADB’s South Asia Department Kenichi Yokoyama, Secretary, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Planning Minister MA Mannan, State Minister for Planning Md. Kamrul Hasan, Manmohan Parkash, Edimon Ginting, ADB Country Director for Bangladesh, Md. Kamrul Hasan, and Liping Zheng, Advisor, Office of the Director General for ADB’s South Asia Department, were among those who attended the occasion.
The two-volume publication—Hazards—Volume I and Exposures, Vulnerabilities, and Risks—Volume II—is meant to aid in the design and implementation of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management projects and choices in Bangladesh.
