In an operation in northeastern Syria, the US declared the commander of the so-called “Islamic State” was “taken off the battlefield.” President Joe Biden claimed that Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi blew himself up during the raid.
US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that the commander of the so-called “Islamic State” (IS), Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, has been “removed off the battlefield” by US forces.
In a press conference on Thursday, Biden said the US had put an end to “a huge terror threat to the globe.”
The counterterrorism campaign in Idlib, Syria’s northern province, was previously declared “successful” by the Pentagon.
It followed a spate of IS attacks in the region in recent weeks.
