Bangladesh had a decline in terrorist activities in 2020, supported by an increase in terrorism-related investigations and arrests, according to the United States (US) 2020 Country Reports on Terrorism (CRT).
The US State Department reported on Thursday that “the Bangladesh government continued to express a zero-tolerance policy regarding terrorism and the use of its territory as a terrorist safe haven.”
According to the report, the Bangladesh government’s new national Antiterrorism Unit began operations in January, with the goal of eventually becoming the country’s premier counterterrorism organization.
According to the report, Bangladesh experienced three specific terrorist incidents in 2020, none of which resulted in deaths.
Bangladesh worked with the US to improve border and port security, according to the State Department.
Bangladesh frequently provided law enforcement information with INTERPOL, although it stated that the country does not have a separate terrorism Alert List.
According to the CRT, the US and Bangladesh are still working to improve Bangladesh’s technical capabilities in order to construct a national-level Alert List of known or suspected terrorists.
