Dave Gahan, the famous singer of electronic pioneers Depeche Mode, says he found fresh vigor while working on an unusual set of covers for his other band’s new album “Imposter.”
When he performs with the band Soulsavers, he performs a wide-ranging repertoire that includes classics by Nat King Cole and Elvis Presley, as well as more unusual artists like Frank Ocean and Cat Power.
He even tackles Jeff Buckley, one of the most amazingly talented vocalists of all time.
“You have to take risks if you want to change,” he told AFP on a visit to Paris.
“What this record did for me, the process of recording it was to realize how amazing it is where I am — the opportunities I have around me if I just take the risk to explore them,” he said.
“These songs once again gave me a new vigour to step into a character that felt familiar.”
But even someone as successful as Gahan knows imposter syndrome.
