Dr. AK Abdul Momen, the Foreign Minister, announced today that the government has set December 4 and 5 as the date for the planned “World Peace Conference” as part of the current celebrations of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation.
He told reporters at his home today, “We’ve chosen to hold the conference on our month of victory, and we’re hoping to make it in person.”
The “Bangabandhu Peace Award” would be introduced and presented during the conference, according to the foreign ministry.
Many countries, he said, provide honors in the name of their nation’s father, such as the Gandhi peace award in India and the Mandela award in South Africa.
Dhaka, according to Momen, would not be inviting any heads of state or governments to the conference, but will instead gather world-renowned peace activists, writers, poets, singers, and global civil society actors to promote a culture of peace and tolerance.
A national committee, led by Speaker Shirin Sharmin Choudhury, has already been constituted, according to the foreign minister, to properly organize the peace conference.
He stated that the national committee will meet for the first time today to examine the protocol for conferring the Bangabandhu Peace Award.
Earlier, the minister stated that during the world peace conference, a special discussion on Bangabandhu would be held because Bangladesh is now a model country for peace, following in the footsteps of its founding father.
Bangladesh is promoting the “culture of peace” message around the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
