In the last month, 78 per cent of those infected with coronavirus in the country were found to have the ‘Delta’ type identified in India. The government’s Institute of Pathology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) obtained this information by sequencing genomes. IEDCR gave this information on Sunday.
In a report titled ‘Latest information of Covid-19 variant (type) in Bangladesh’, IEDCR said that such a clear predominance of Corona is now seen in the country.
According to the report, the SARS-Cove-2 virus has been identified since its first detection in 2019. The company has been sequencing these types of genomes since the beginning. In this series, 648 samples have been sequenced from December last year to June last year.
After the identification of Delta type in Bangladesh in April, its rate started increasing. About 45 per cent of the samples were identified in May and 6 per cent in June.
Alpha (first identified in UK), beta (first identified in South Africa), Delta (first identified in India), ETA (first identified in Nigeria) and B1.1.618 (unknown) have been identified in Bangladesh. Around the world, coronaviruses are changing and taking on new looks and features, say the same type or variant.
According to the IEDCR, information about the type found in the Covid-19 sample test was submitted to GISAID, the global database of genome sequences.
