The United States and France warned Iran on Friday that it was running out of time to return to a nuclear deal. They also expressed concern that Tehran’s nuclear program could move forward if the talks continue to drag on. News from AFP.
During the first high-level visit to Paris by President Biden’s administration, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and his French envoy Donald Trump hailed the new cooperation initiative after four years of turmoil.
However, both sides said that Biden’s important promise to return to the country’s nuclear deal in 2015 could be jeopardized if Iran’s hardline government does not show restraint in nuclear talks. The talks have been going on for more than two months in Vienna. Former US President Donald Trump has called the nuclear deal with Tehran “meaningless” and announced his withdrawal from the deal.
Blinken warned that the United States still had “many differences” with Iran. They are also holding talks after the country’s hardline Ibrahim Raisi won last week’s election.
Mr Biden said Biden was still in favor of a return to the agreement if Iran returned to its previous position. It is worth mentioning that in 2016, when Trump announced his withdrawal from the agreement and imposed new sanctions on Iran, Tehran also announced its withdrawal from its commitment to the nuclear deal.
