The West Bengal state government was finally forced to go for lockdown as the number of victims and deaths in Corona continued to rise for several days in a row. West Bengal will be in an all-out lockdown from May 16 to May 30.
The West Bengal state government issued the order in an announcement on Saturday. According to the government order, all government and non-government offices will be closed from May 18 to May 30 except the offices of emergency and essential service providers.
Shops that provide food, groceries, and essential services will be closed. Among the shops selling food items, vegetables, groceries, milk and fish and meat shops can be kept open from 8 am to 10 am.
During the lockdown, public transport in West Bengal will be completely closed, but vehicles covered by the emergency services will be exempt. Tea gardens in various northern districts, including Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, will operate with half of their total workforce.
From May 17 to May 30, all gatherings related to education, administration, and religion have been banned in all districts of West Bengal. Besides, all activities outside the house from 9 pm to 5 am have been banned.
During the lockdown period, West Bengal banks will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. E-commerce and home delivery services will be free from lockdown. Automobile repair shops or garages are also excluded from the lockdown.
All parks and gardens in the state will be closed for the next fortnight. Weddings cannot be attended by more than 50 guests.
