Iran besieges US ship, fires 30 rounds

As the US siege of the Strait of Hormuz began, 30 shots were fired at the Iranian navy. The two countries met for the second time in less than a month.

A Pentagon spokesman, John Kirby, said Monday (May 10th) that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards had 13 armed speedboats on board. Two U.S. ships, 480 feet from the fireboat, came within reach.

The ships were originally deployed to guard the missile-carrying submarine USS Georgia. During this time they were warned several times by sending signals but they crossed the safe border. Then shots were fired to warn them.

The BBC reports that there was no immediate comment from Iran. But Iran claims full control of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway in the Middle East, and the Persian Gulf. Iran has also threatened to shut down the process amid tensions.
