According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), global military spending rose 2.6 percent to USD 1.981 billion in 2020. At the same time, global GDP has shrunk by 4.4 percent.
Diego Lopez de Silva, one of the authors of the report, told AFP that global military spending growth was unexpected in such a delicate situation.
“The epidemic of the coronavirus is expected to reduce global military spending by 2020,” he said.
Lopez de Silva said, “But in the end, the Covid-19 did not have a significant impact on global military spending in 2020.”
