The abortion bill was passed amid protests in Argentina

The abortion bill was passed amid protests in Argentina. The lower house of parliament voted on Friday.

It was passed by 131-117 votes. However, the bill will be taken up in the upper house of the Senate for final approval. If passed there, the bill will become law. Then anyone can have an abortion voluntarily.

The law states that abortions can be performed up to 14 weeks of gestation. At present, there is a provision for punishment if someone has an abortion without rape or health risk. Protests against the bill have been going on for weeks in the Latin American country.

Protesters claim the abortion was a homicide.

According to the data, thousands of women have died in the country since 1983 due to unsafe abortions.
