Protests demanding declaration of Nepal as a monarchy and ‘Hindu state’ again

A movement has started in Nepal demanding the return of monarchy instead of democracy. Supporters of the royal family staged a massive protest in the capital, Kathmandu, on Saturday.

This is the biggest protest for the monarchy in Nepal since the beginning of democracy. Excluding secular identities, the protesters also demanded that Nepal be declared a Hindu state again.

There are constant protests in various countries demanding democracy. However, the protests in Nepal are an exception. Thousands of people have joined the movement to demand the abolition of democracy and return to the monarchy.

For a few days, the supporters of the monarchy were holding small programs in different cities. They gathered from all over the country in the capital Kathmandu on Saturday. In the procession, many were seen carrying pictures of deposed King Gyanendra. Protesters claim that there is no alternative to handing over power to the king again to protect Nepal.

Amir KC, the leader of the pro-monarchy rally, said that “if a political party called a rally, people had to be hired. However, thousands of people volunteered to join the program. The dream of a beautiful Nepal will be fulfilled through the restoration of the monarchy. We will remain on the highway until the demand is met.”

The 239-year-old monarchy in Himalayan Nepal came to an end in 2006. The journey of democracy started with the hands of the Maoists. But many Nepalis are annoyed with the allegations of division and corruption among the political parties, not a decade has passed. Political analysts fear new unrest in Nepal over pro-monarchy protests.
