A team of 40 Rohingyas went to Bhashan Char island in Hatiya of Noakhali to observe the accommodation facilities made by the government to re-establish of one lakh Rohingyas.
“40 Rohingya leaders from different camps of Cox’s Bazar camps went to Bhashan Char under the supervision of Bangladesh Army and Navy. they will return to Cox’s Bazar on September 8 after staying there for three days,” stated additional Refugee Rehabilitation and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Md Shamsuddoza.
He stated the 40 Rohingya leaders from 34 camps were mobilized at a transit camp at Kutupalong of Ukhiya last Friday. Early today, they were taken to Chattogram and then to Bhashan Char by a Bangladesh Navy ship.
The government of Bangladesh has been executing a project involving Tk 3,500 crore in Bhashan Char to rehabilitate one lakh Rohingyas there.
It built 120 cluster villages on the 40 sqkm island and the houses have been built four feet above the ground with concrete blocks. The housing site is protected by a 13 km long flood embankment.
There are also 120 cyclone shelters, which will be used as schools, medical centers, and community centers.
