Former South African batsman Neil McKenzie has resigned as the batting coach of the Bangladesh cricket team. Mackenzie gave such information to the popular cricket website Cricinfo.
The Bangladesh team will tour Sri Lanka next month. So the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was in the process of sorting out the whole team. BCB officials were discussing with the players and coaching staff.
Among the coaching staff, Mackenzie was reluctant to visit Sri Lanka. Akram Khan, chairman of the BCB’s cricket operations committee, told the media yesterday.
He said, ‘McKenzie does not want to go with the Bangladesh cricket team for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. It is not yet clear why McKenzie does not want to visit Sri Lanka. Whether Mackenzie just wants to go on this tour, or whether he is not willing to be the batting coach of Team Bangladesh in the future, needs to be known first. We have not yet received that news from Mackenzie. Talks are being held with him.’
A day after Akram’s speech, Mackenzie revealed his position in the Bangladesh team. He resigned from the post of batting coach of the Tigers due to family reasons.
“Yes, I resigned,” McKenzie said. The only reason is, I have to stay away from the family. It will be difficult for my new family to adapt to all formats in this situation of COVID.’
In July 2016, Mackenzie took over as the batting coach of the Bangladesh team in two formats of limited overs. Under his supervision, the improvement of the batsmen of Bangladesh is also noticeable. So later he was seen as an advisor to the Bangladesh Test team.
