The EU is giving Bangladesh 9.6 million BDT to deal with the floods

The European Union (EU) has provided one lakh euros (9.6 million BDT) to offset the loss of lives due to severe floods in different parts of Bangladesh.

The EU mission said in a press release today that the financial assistance would benefit more than 3,300 families in the worst-hit districts of Kurigram, Gaibandha, and Jamalpur.

The money will be used to move people in the most at-risk areas to safer shelters with their resources and livestock, and to provide unconditional loans as well as first aid.

The notification further said that in this sense, the program of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society will also be supported with this aid money. The Red Crescent Society will take precautionary measures to create reliable scientific forecasts and risk analysis for the possible impact of floods and to reduce the suffering and loss of people.

It added that heavy flooding caused by heavy rains in the northern and eastern parts of the country could affect millions of residents in the affected areas in early July.
