The European Union (EU) will provide 11 lakh Euros to Bangladesh to recover from the damage caused by the Super Cyclone Amphan.
“We have decided to respond to Bangladesh’s call and assist the people of the cyclone-hit areas without any delay,” EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarcic said in a press briefing.
He said the storm hit at a time when it was important for the country to maintain its social distance to prevent the global epidemic of the coronavirus. “It’s more of a crisis than a crisis,” the statement said.
Janez Lenarcic added that the EU would identify the immediate needs of the people affected by the cyclone and take steps to provide humanitarian assistance as well as protect health workers from the spread of the epidemic.
Lenarcic said, “We are shocked to hear the news of this tragic incident in Bangladesh and India.” He expressed sorrow and grief over the massive loss and loss of life in this natural calamity.
He added that the EU’s Copernicus Emergency Management Services is assisting Bangladesh and India with satellite maps to find out the damage caused by the storm.
