The U.S. government has approved the creation of the largest solar project in the United States and the eighth largest in the world.
When the construction of the solar project in the Nevada desert is completed by mid-2022, it will generate 690 megawatts of solar power.
This week, the U.S. Department of Interior (DOI) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) approved a proposal to set up a solar project in Nevada, 30 miles northeast of Las Vegas. U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhard has signed the Record of Decision for Solar Partners Eleven LLC.
The company will implement a project called Gemini Solar Project at a cost of 1 billion USD. The power generated from the project will be used in 260,000 homes in Las Vegas and Southern California.
The whole project will be completed in two steps. After the completion of the first phase in 2021, the entire construction work will be completed in 2022. From here, 3 million in annual revenue will be added to the US treasury.
In addition, the renewable electricity generated from the project will reduce the annual greenhouse gas emissions to about 83,000 vehicles.
