The very first two positive cases of coronavirus did identify in the Rohingya camps in Ukhiya Upazila of Cox’s Bazar last Thursday. UNHCR, the UN refugee agency has affirmed it citing the government.
One of the patients is from the refugee community and the other one is from the neighboring host community, Louise Donovan, Spokesperson at UNHCR said.
Both of the patents have presented to health facilities run by humanitarian allies in Ukhiya, where samples were taken that were consequently examined in the IEDCR Field Laboratory in Cox’s Bazar.
Health workers working within the Rohingya camps have been oriented on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), including the relevant use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
COVID-19 testing started in Cox’s Bazar at the start of last April. As far as 14 May almost 108 Rohingya refugees have been tested.
