31 January 2019 was the fifth anniversary of Bangladeshi dance repertory Turongomi. On this occasion, a small get together of Turongomi members took place at their studio in New Eskaton, Dhaka.
The name of the most eligible Turongomi member 2018 was also announced on the same evening. This year the motto of Turongomi’s anniversary celebration is “Five years of Flourishing with Dance”. Also, an audio-visual titled “Flourishing Five” has been uploaded on pages of Turongomi in social media. Turongomi staged their first choreography titled “A tribute to the Playwright: Syed Haq” on 31 January 2014, dedicated to the eminent writer Syed Shamsul Haq.
In 2018, Turongomi continued to take part at mainstream prestigious programs at home and abroad. Apart from staging regular productions, in 2018, new choreographies titled Forever, Habeng and the official theme song choreography of National Power Week were staged by Turongomi.
Turongomi’s Oronnya exclusively aired by Channel I was also well received by the viewers. In April 2018, Turongomi was invited at the Dance XChange: Philippine International Dance Festival 2018, while in September 2018, Pooja Sengupta, Artistic Director of Turongomi was invited at the Dunhuang International Conference on Dance Education, in China.
2018 was a groundbreaking year for Turongomi from the perspective of research on Dance and DancEducationon. Pooja Sengupta’s papers were presented and published by The Reformist Society (India), International Journal of Beijing Dance Academy, CNU and Northwest Normal University (China) and Herzen State University of Pedagogical Science (Russia). Turongomi has been the first group to stage a ticket show of their dance theatre production ‘Waterness’ at the Hatirjheel Amphitheatre in October 2018. The show got an enormous response from the local and foreign audience/ diplomats residing in Dhaka.
