Abdullah Mahmud of Afghanistan is getting ready to go back to his country or ‘watan’ as he calls it, after surgery for colon cancer in India. He is weak but definitely on the path to recovery – and he knows it.
He is full of thoughts – of gratitude to India Virtual Hospital (IVH) which helped him reach India, informed him about the best available treatment —- from selecting the city, doctor, hospital, guesthouse, negotiating the treatment package to admission, counseling and being available throughout the treatment journey. He needs to talk to the doctor in detail one last time before he leaves.
The doctor arrives. Abdullah Mahmud pays his respects. The doctor smiles and tells him he is happy for Abdullah’s recovery. But back in Afghanistan, Abdullah would have to take medication regularly and undergo certain tests and check-ups at regular intervals to see that the medical condition does not recur. That worries Abdullah because he is not highly literate and so could mess up on the medication. Not to worry, tells the doctor to Abdullah.
The Hospital Companion of India Virtual Hospital (IVH) who was with Abdullah all through his journey to India, to the hospital, and during his stay at the hospital, will do the needful even after Abdullah goes back home. The Hospital Companion will call Abdullah or message him at the right time so that none of the medication or medical check-ups are missed. At the initial stages of Abdullah’s contact with IVH, he had been told that the Hospital Companion will be with him throughout the stay in India, and beyond. Now that the doctor reiterated this, Abdullah was satisfied.
Says Swadeep Srivastava, Managing Partner, India Virtual Hospital, “IVH is committed to holding the hands of all patients who travel to India on its advice. And that commitment spans their stay in India and even after they return to their homeland. In Abdullah’s case too, this commitment held true. So, Abdullah, the doctor and the Hospital Companion sat together and drew up a schedule of things Abdullah and the Hospital Companion had to do in the coming days. The Hospital Companion or someone from IVH would remind Abdullah, at the right time, of the medicines that he had to take, through SMS, WhatsApp, and email. So, the chances of Abdullah missing out on the advice were minimal. As for tests and medical check-ups, either the Hospital Companion or someone from IVH would call up Abdullah to remind him of his tests.”
