Josim Uddin Ahmed, the film’s director, was handed the award at a ceremony held at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Ankara on Wednesday, December 20.
The competition was organized by Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, with applicants from 124 countries having submitted 5,404 films.
Josim told the press that he was extremely happy and proud to have won the award as a Bangladeshi.
He added that he had attempted to shed light on the suffering of Rohingya refugees through his documentary.
Earlier, the film was also included in the competition section of Italy’s Naples Human Rights Film Festival in November this year.
The 4 minute 13 second long documentary does not have any narration or dialogue, and was shot entirely by Josim on his smartphone. The film’s music direction and sound design was by Ripon Nath and its manuscript was written by Farid Ahmed.
Previously, Josim’s short film “Daag,” based on the 1971 Liberation War, was showcased at the 70th Cannes Film Festival’s Short Film Corner, from where a US-based TV channel acquired the film’s television distribution license.
The film premiered on US and European television on November 3.
