Muslims across Bangladesh are celebrating the Eid-ul-Fitr, their biggest religious festival, after a month of fasting.
Millions raised their hands to pray for peace and prosperity after Eid congregations – or jamaats, as they are commonly referred to.
The biggest of these congregations is scheduled to be held at Kishoreganj’s Sholakia at 10am on Monday as memories of last year’s unprecedented attack near the Eid grounds haunt the people.
President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have greeted the nation on the occasion. They will exchange greetings with the people later in the day.
Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League chief, will first exchange Eid greetings with the people of all classes and professions including party leaders and workers from 9.30 am to 11 am at Ganabhaban.
