BRAC Academy opened its doors in Dhaka

BRAC Academy has formally started operations in Dhaka with an emphasis on high-quality education and children’s whole development. The school fosters inquiry, instills respect and responsibility, and assists students in becoming competent, self-assured individuals by emphasizing values-based learning.

After opening its first location in Cumilla in 2019, BRAC Academy currently operates in Cumilla, Bogura, Rajshahi, and Dhaka. Later this month, it plans to expand to Chattogram, Sylhet, Jashore, and Noakhali. Its main goal is to give kids in urban areas and district towns access to high-quality, reasonably priced education.

On Thursday, 8 January, the BRAC Academy in Dakshinkhan, Dhaka, was formally inaugurated by Tamara Hasan Abed, Managing Director of BRAC Enterprises. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, she said that quality education requires more than school buildings or infrastructure; it demands authentic, research-based learning. Drawing on BRAC’s long-standing experience in the country’s education sector, BRAC Academy has been established to ensure that children receive education of international standards.

Tamara Hasan Abed pointed out that the nation needs people who are creative and well-rounded in order to advance, citing the current educational system’s strong emphasis on memorization. She continued by saying that BRAC Academy offers students a meaningful education that fosters self-confidence and inspires them to think and express themselves.

Safi Rahman Khan, Director of BRAC’s Education, Skills Development, and Migration Programme, stated in his closing remarks that although the number of universities has expanded and success rates in various exams have increased, there is still a lack of skill and critical thinking development. According to him, BRAC Academy strives to raise kids in a way that empowers them to think for themselves and make their own choices.

Niveen Reza, Head of Social Enterprise at BRAC’s Education Program, gave the introductory comments. According to her, BRAC Academy’s operations and methodology are modeled after those of nations with sophisticated education sectors.

Ishrat Jahan and Fakhrunnesa Lima, the parents, also offered their thoughts. The academy’s pupils gave cultural performances for the event’s attendees. Before that, visitors looked throughout the whole campus.

Children four years of age and older can receive elementary education at BRAC Academy from Play Group to Grade Five. It employs a bilingual Bangla–English approach that emphasizes Bangla while progressively introducing English through activities that are age-appropriate, allowing kids to acquire proficient communication skills in both languages.

In addition to the national curriculum, BRAC Academy helps pupils develop critical life skills. Its educational resources are tailored to the Bangladeshi context while still meeting international standards.

BRAC Academy aims to prepare the younger generation for future leadership roles. With a vision to establish a child-centred and affordable education network across Bangladesh, the academy seeks to provide quality education for middle-income families as a credible alternative to costly private schools.
