Milon announces 180-day priority programme for education sector

Today, Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Minister of Education and Primary and Mass Education, unveiled a unique 180-day priority program aimed at reforming and guaranteeing inclusive development of the education system.

The minister oversaw the execution of a number of initiatives, one of which was to guarantee free university-level education for the offspring of those killed and injured during the “July Uprising.”

On the first working day following Eid-ul-Fitr, he gave the orders during a post-Eid meeting with Education Ministry officials and staff that took place in the ministry conference room.

Senior officials from the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, and the Primary and Mass Education Division were present at the meeting.

The minister discussed in detail the 180-day programme, the education sector development strategy for the 2026–2027 fiscal year, and the five-year development plan, in line with the electoral manifesto of the BNP and goals of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Emphasizing swift implementation of electoral commitments, Milon said initiatives such as “One Teacher, One Tab,” multimedia classrooms, compulsory third-language education, technical education for all, and the “One Child, One Tree” programme would be implemented to ensure modernization and inclusive development of education.

He emphasized offering free keds and school uniforms, student loans for postsecondary study overseas, and respect and acknowledgment for Haffezs (those who have committed the Holy Quran to memory).

In order to raise the standard of primary education, the minister directed authorities to take concrete measures to clear the backlog in teacher training.

He suggested conducting training in multiple shifts if necessary to ensure rapid training coverage for all teachers.

Additionally, Milon mandated that the training programs include teachers who are over 50 and work for nationalized institutions.

The meeting decided to distribute free school uniforms and shoes to more than 200,000 students across every upazila within the next 180 days.

Additionally, it was agreed to give free shoes and uniforms to every elementary school student in the country as soon as possible.

Additionally, plans were established to give computer tablets to every instructor in schools, colleges, madrasas, technical schools, and basic schools within a year.

In order to foster student talent development, it was decided to implement mathematical Olympiads at the upazila level and mandate debate groups and competitions in all educational establishments.
