Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense said Sunday three ballistic missiles were detected around the capital, as the kingdom and its Gulf neighbours face Iranian strikes in retaliation for US-Israeli attacks.
“One missile was intercepted, while the other two fell in an uninhabited area,” a spokesperson for the ministry posted on social media.
The Saudi Civil Defense issued a warning early on Sunday morning, but it was canceled seven minutes later after it was determined that the threat had passed.
The defense ministry said that since midnight, five drones have also been intercepted.
In reaction to US-Israeli strikes that started the regional conflict late last month, Iran has continued its retaliation airstrikes on Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries.
Concerns about a shock to the world’s energy supply have been heightened by the attacks on the oil-rich countries, some of which have targeted energy facilities.
