Those responsible for Sadarghat launch accident to face exemplary punishment: state minister

State Minister for Shipping Md. Razib Ahsan has said those responsible for the launch accident that occurred at Sadarghat in the capital will be brought under exemplary punishment. 

He visited the accident site at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal last night where he spoke with concerned officials, eyewitnesses, and journalists, said an official handout today.

He said route permits of the two launches involved have already been canceled.
Razib said two separate probe bodies have been formed by the Ministry of Shipping and BIWTA to determine the cause of the accident. 

They have been instructed to submit their reports within three working days, he said adding strict legal action will be taken against those found guilty in the investigation.

He said ministry’s Additional Secretary Abul Islam will lead a committee while another committee has been formed under the leadership of BIWTA Director (Administration) Saiful Islam. 

BIWTA, the Shipping Directorate, the Fire Service, and River Police were represented on the ministry’s committee.

He conveyed his profound sadness at the terrible mishap. The state minister stated that a pregnant mother and other members of the same family are among the injured.

He stated that all required steps have been made to guarantee their appropriate medical care and that the government will provide the deceased’s family with the greatest possible assistance.

Dr. Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, the Shipping Secretary, and other relevant officials were present during the visit.
