Home Ministry to hold meeting on creation of 4,000 SI Posts to strengthen Bangladesh Police

In an effort to improve Bangladesh Police’s ability to uphold law and order throughout the nation, the Home Ministry has summoned a conference to examine a plan to establish 4,000 Sub-Inspector (SI) positions.

A review meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, March 10, at 2:00 PM in the Home Ministry’s conference room, per a notice released by the ministry on March 8.

The ministry’s Senior Secretary will preside over the meeting.

According to the announcement, a proposal from the Police Department to establish 4,000 unarmed SI Grade-10 (Unarmed) positions in different units under the Bangladesh Police organizational structure will be discussed at the meeting.

The initiative comes as part of efforts to address the manpower shortage in the police force.

Soon after assuming office, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed raised the issue of recruitment to resolve staffing shortages at different levels of the police.

On February 23, during a meeting with the chiefs of the ministry’s several departments, the minister instructed officials to act quickly to fill open positions.

He gave officials instructions to finish the hiring procedure for open constable positions as soon as possible.

The Home Minister later declared on February 26 that 180 open positions for police sergeants will be immediately filled.

Meanwhile, the application procedure has started for the open positions of police sergeants and constables, for which recruiting announcements have already been released.

Officials believe that the proposed recruitment of additional Sub-Inspectors will significantly enhance the operational capacity of Bangladesh Police and help ensure improved law and order management across the country.
