Today, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman gave the relevant authorities instructions to look for measures to improve the efficiency and organization of the nation’s Zakat administration system.
During a meeting on Zakat management at the Bangladesh Secretariat’s Cabinet Division, the Premier issued the detective. The Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary, Md. Zahidul Islam Rony, confirmed the information.
The conference was attended by As-Sunnah Foundation Chairman Shaykh Ahmadullah, Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad), and Ministry Secretary Munshi Alauddin Al Azad.
Rony said that during an iftar programme held on March 7 in honour of Islamic scholars and orphans, the Prime Minister had said that a proper Zakat management system could play a significant role in eliminating poverty in the country within the next 10 to 15 years.
“Today’s meeting was held in line with that statement,” he said.
About the meeting’s outcome Rony said the meeting discussed how an effective Zakat management system could contribute to poverty alleviation in the country.
Besides, the meeting decided to reconstitute the Zakat Board, he added.
According to Rony, the meeting suggested creating a committee led by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad), with members including As-Sunnah Foundation Chairman Shaykh Ahmadullah, Khatib Allama Mufti Abdul Malek of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, and a number of eminent Islamic scholars and economists.
Within the next 10 days, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will suggest names for the entire committee, according to the Deputy Press Secretary.
According to Rony, the committee will shortly present the Prime Minister with its suggestions on Zakat administration and the reorganization of the Zakat Board.
