Md. Aminul Haque, the State Minister for the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has urged the nation’s top business institutions to step up and assist young athletes and underdeveloped sports federations.
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has accorded the highest priority to sports at present and special initiatives have been undertaken to promote sports from the grassroots level. Coordinated efforts between the ministry and corporate houses would elevate the country’s sports arena to new heights on the global stage,” he said.
Speaking as the primary guest at a meeting today in the National Sports Council conference room with representatives of leading corporate organizations, he made the call.
The meeting was presided over by Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
According to the state minister, playground construction is given top priority in accordance with the government’s election program.
In order to create a new playground, two to three bighas of land will be purchased between each of Dhaka’s roughly 100 wards, he continued.
He added that the government has started a plan to construct 64 indoor sports towns in each of the 64 districts of the nation.
The state minister also revealed that the government would provide necessary support for developing futsal grounds, as the game has gained popularity in recent times.
“There are plans to establish a full-fledged sports industry in the country, enabling the production of international-standard sports goods locally,” he said.
This initiative, he said, would help earn foreign currency through exports and create extensive employment opportunities.
