Foreign aid commitments jump to $2.27b during July-Jan of FY26

During the first seven months of the current fiscal year (FY26), from July to January, the development partners increased their commitments to provide Bangladesh with foreign aid.

Bangladesh inked new loan agreements or received commitments from development partners totaling around US$2.27 billion between July and January, according to an updated report issued today by the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

Commitments totaled $2.35 billion over the same time of the prior fiscal year (FY25).

ERD officials said that with the overall situation improving, the volume of new commitments has increased significantly.

According to ERD data, foreign loan disbursements also increased during the July–January period.

Development partners disbursed $2.64 billion during the July-January period, while Bangladesh repaid a significant amount.

During July–January of the current fiscal year (FY26), Bangladesh paid $2.67 billion in principal and interest on various foreign loans.
