Today, eight notable individuals received the Bangla Academy Literary Award-2025 from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in recognition of their noteworthy contributions to the domains of Bangla literature.
At this afternoon’s Amar Ekushey Book Fair inauguration ceremony at the Bangla Academy grounds, the premier presented the awards to the eight winners.
Earlier, the head of the government arrived at the venue around 2:00 pm while the event began with singing the national anthem, recitation of religious scripts and singing of the historic immortal song “Amar Bhaiyer Rokte Rangano Ekushey February . . . Ami Ki Bhulite Pari?”. Besides, one minute of silence was observed in the memory of the martyrs of the 1952 Language Movement, the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 July Uprising.
The fields of Bangla Academy Literary awards cover poetry, fiction, essays, research, children’s literature, translation, science and the Liberation War.
Nasima Anis for fiction, Syed Azizul Haque for essays, Hasan Hafiz for children’s books, Ali Ahmad for translation, Mustafa Majid and Israel Khan for research, Farsim Mannan Mohammadi for science, and Moidul Hasan for Liberation War are the recipients of the Bangla Academy Literary Award-2025.
The Prime Minister later participated in a group photo with the recipients.
Following the Bangla Academy Literary Award-2025 Proposal Committee’s recommendations and in compliance with the Bangla Academy Literary Award Committee’s decision, the names of the recipients were confirmed.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and State Minister Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam spoke at the function as special guests with Bangla Academy President Professor Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq in the chair.
Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman, Bangladesh Book Publishers and Sellers Association President Md Rezaul Karim Badsha and Bangla Academy Director General Professor Mohammad Azam delivered the welcome address.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and their daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman, cabinet members, members of parliament and dignitaries were present at the function.
