IGP asks police to be tough against extortion, terrorism, and drug-related crimes

Field-level police officials have been instructed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam to take stringent action to stop drug-related crimes, extortion, and snatching.

“Normal law and order must be maintained at any cost . . . If anyone commits extortion, terrorism or drug-related crimes, legal action must be taken against them irrespective of party and opinion affiliations,” he told the officers.

According to a press statement, the police chief developed the orders during a virtual meeting this afternoon with the heads of all police units, Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs, and district police superintendents from Police Headquarters.

“If anyone tries to create chaos, legal action must be taken against them,” the IGP stated, emphasizing that no activity of the banned political parties can be let to continue.

“Highway robberies must be stopped at any cost and the concerned police should take strict action to prevent highway robberies,” he added in reference to the occurrences of highway robberies.

The IGP categorically directed the Highway Police as well as the District Police to take action to prevent highway robberies at any cost.

The concerned Additional IGPs were present at the Police Headquarters at that time.
