The government has decided to rename the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) as the Special Intervention Force (SIF), according to Home Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today.
“We have decided to change the name of RAB in line with the people’s expectations,” he said while replying to a question after attending a core committee meeting on law and order at the Home Ministry in the Bangladesh Secretariat here.
According to the Home Adviser, compared to a year and a half ago, there has been a substantial shift in the way tasks are carried out.
According to sources in the Home Ministry, the Chief Adviser has already accepted the decision to rename RAB, and a government order would be released shortly.
They also mentioned that a new uniform will be given to the force.
