Direct Dhaka-Karachi flights resume after long hiatus

Direct air connectivity between Dhaka and Karachi was formally resumed today with the inauguration of a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, marking a significant step towards strengthening regional aviation links.

The inaugural flight, BG-341, operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, departed Dhaka at 8:15 pm carrying 149 passengers and one infant on a Boeing 737 aircraft.

The Dhaka-Karachi route was reopened after a long suspension and is being seen as an important milestone in enhancing aviation connectivity between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The inauguration ceremony, held at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the evening, was attended by Adviser to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Air S K Bashir Uddin, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq, Managing Director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Dr Shafique Rahman and Pakistan High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maroof.

Officials said the resumption of direct flights is expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan by facilitating trade, tourism, and people-to-people contacts.

They added that the renewed route will also provide passengers with more convenient and time-efficient travel options, reducing reliance on indirect connections.
