In the approaching 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls and referendum, which are scheduled for February 12, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bahrul Alam emphasized today his hope that his colleagues will exhibit professionalism, impartiality, and a strong sense of duty.
He stated, “The Bangladesh Police is currently at a critical turning point and is working tirelessly to boost the morale of its members and regain public trust.”
According to a police news release here, the police chief made the comments while speaking to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) probationers of the 27th BCS (Police) batch in the Hall of Integrity at Police headquarters.
Congratulating the ASP probationers, he described their joining as not only a personal achievement but also the restoration of their rightful positions.
He noted that the success of the student and public-led Mass Uprising cleared the path for the officers of the 27th BCS (Police) batch to reclaim their legitimate rights after a protracted legal process, referring to the long deprivation they had endured.
He pointed out that the officers’ past work experience would be a great help to them in their future professions.
The IGP emphasized the necessity to deal with contemporary issues, stating that crime is moving more and more into the cyber sphere and that social media is now a major factor in shaping public opinion.
“In today’s reality, traditional policing alone is not enough…Intelligence, global awareness and technological adaptability are essential to this end,” he said.
He continued that future police leadership must uphold integrity and professionalism both offline and in the digital space.
During their training at the Bangladesh Police Academy, Alam exhorted the ASP probationers to uphold timeliness, discipline, and rigorous adherence to rules and regulations.
Sixty officers from the 27th BCS batch, one from the 28th batch, and six from the 43rd batch make up the probationers.
Other Inspector Generals who attended the occasion were AKM Awlad Hossain (Administration), Md. Akram Hossain (Finance), Khondaker Rafiqul Islam (Crime and Operations), Mosleh Uddin Ahmed (Logistics), and Sarder Nurul Amin (Development).
