There are now 1,967 candidates running in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections after 305 withdrew their nominations.
Late last night, Md. Ruhul Amin Mallick, the Election Commission’s (EC) Secretariat Director (Public Relations) and Information Officer, verified the number.
With the exception of Pabna-1 and Pabna-2, he stated that 1,967 individuals, including independents and party nominees, will run in 298 constituencies.
According to EC officials, 2,585 nomination papers were initially submitted for 300 seats.
As per the election schedule, the deadline for withdrawal of candidatures expired at 5 pm yesterday.
Symbols will be allotted today, and election campaigning will begin tomorrow, January 22. Campaigning will continue until 48 hours before polling day.
On Thursday, February 12, voting for the 13th JS elections and referendum will take place uninterrupted from 7:30 am until 4:30 pm. Transparent ballot boxes and printed ballot sheets will be used for voting.
In his speech to the country on December 11, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin revealed the timeline for the 13th parliamentary (JS) elections. December 29 was the deadline for submitting nomination papers.
