Police trying to come out of past disgrace: IGP

According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, police committed numerous anti-people activities during the previous Awami League regime’s 15-year tenure.

After attending a special welfare meeting with police officers at the Rangpur Police Lines School and College auditorium today, he told reporters, “The police were developed as party police being deviated from their principles.”

Tragic events occurred in this nation in July and August of 2024, according to the IGP, when many demonstrators died and became martyrs.

“Responsibility of those incidents came on us due to some greedy and partisan members of the force. We are trying to come out of that disgrace and restore its previous glorify again,” he said.

“We will not say that we’re 100% successful, but there is no lack of our efforts,” the IGP said adding that 100% crime control cannot be achieved anywhere.

“The entire nation has been shaken by the death of Sharif Osman Hadi,” stated Baharul Alam. We now have an obligation to appropriately handle the law and order issue. This is what we are attempting to do.

He added that authorities had been able to identify the majority of the killers in a number of murders that have occurred in the Khulna district.

In response to a query, Baharul Alam stated that maintaining stability in law and order before the upcoming elections is our duty.

“In this task Bangladesh Police is not alone, the army, navy, air force, BGB and Ansar members are with us,” he added.

According to the IGP, the government has mandated that CCTV cameras be installed in each voting place. Additionally, 24,000 polling places will employ body-worn cameras as part of a program.

He sought the cooperation of all concerned to hold the elections in a fair, impartial and festive atmosphere.

About the criticism on Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2 the IGP said, “We are trying to work as objectively as possible. Whoever is potentially a threat for the election, we are trying to bring him under the law.”
