Liberation War Deputy Chief of Staff AK Khandker dies

Bir Uttam, the former Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal AK Khandkar, and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Bangladesh Liberation War, died this morning.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, age-related problems caused the combat hero to pass away at 10:35 a.m. today.

Abdul Karim Khandkar, also known as AK Khandkar, was 95 years old when he passed away. He was born on January 1, 1930.

A distinguished figure in the national history, Khandkar was elected to the Jatiya Sangsad from Pabna-2 constituency in 2009 general elections. 

He played a pivotal role in the Liberation War as Deputy Chief of Staff and later served as Bangladesh’s Minister of Planning.

His illustrious career also included diplomatic assignments as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to India and Australia.
