Bhutanese PM pays homage to Liberation War martyrs in Savar

Shortly after arriving here on a two-day state visit, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay honored the Liberation War dead by laying a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar on the outskirts of the capital.

He placed the wreath on the memorial’s altar and then stood in mournful silence for a short while in remembrance of the 1971 Liberation War martyrs.

While the bugles played a melancholic music, a contingent of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force performed a state salute.

Housing and Public Works Secretary Md Nazrul Islam, Bir Protik, Commerce Advisor Sk. Bashir Uddin, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Advisor Supradip Chakma, and Liberation War Affairs Advisor Faruk E. Azam were occasionally present.

Later, the Bhutanese premier signed the visitors’ book kept there and planted a Bakul sapling on the memorial premises.

Earlier, a red carpet was rolled out to accord warm reception to Tobgay on his arrival.

Tobgay and his party arrived at the capital’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at approximately 8:15 a.m. aboard a Drukair flight, where Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus met him.

The Bhutanese leader is scheduled to meet with Bangladesh’s commerce adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and international adviser Md Touhid Hossain this afternoon before seeing Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus at his office in the Tejgaon area of the city at approximately 3:00 p.m.

In the evening, Prime Minister Tobgay will also be present at a formal banquet held in his honor.
