The Mobile Business Community Bangladesh (MCB) has called for the immediate release of Abu Sayeed Pias, the association’s secretary, and has declared the shutdown of all mobile phone sales locations nationwide.
The news was made on Wednesday during a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).
Speakers threatened to start a more aggressive, nationwide movement if Pias is not released by Wednesday. Additionally, they made threats to “bring the country to a standstill.”
In protest of the purported incarceration of SumashTech CEO Abu Sayeed Pias by the Detective Branch (DB), MCB leaders announced that all mobile phone stores in Bangladesh will remain closed. “We will take to the streets with intensified programs if Secretary Pias is not released today,” they declared.
Pias, a well-known smartphone and gadget entrepreneur, was allegedly taken up by DB employees on Tuesday night.
Sumaiya Chowdhury, Pias’s wife, stated that at approximately three in the morning, DB agents removed her husband from their Mirpur-1 home and confiscated his cell phone.
