Pro-Russian hackers claimed responsibility for the extensive cyberattack that targeted Danish government and defense websites on Thursday, according to the nation’s Civil Protection Agency.
In a statement given to AFP, the agency stated that it was “aware that several Danish companies and websites were currently experiencing outages and operating disruptions because of DDoS attacks.”
By flooding a website’s servers with traffic, distributed denial of service (DDoS) assaults prevent users from accessing it.
The organization claimed to be “following the situation closely” alongside Denmark’s military intelligence service.
On social media, a pro-Russian hacker collective known as NoName057 claimed to have hacked Danish websites, including the Ministry of Transportation and the public sector portal Borger.dk. Terma, a defense organization, confirmed the attacks.
“We’re aware that a Russian hacker group has claimed that it (would) disrupt our website as well as the ones of several Danish authorities but it’s too early to say they are responsible,” Terma spokesman Tobias Brun-Falkencrone told AFP.
“We are well geared to handle this kind of cyberattack and acted quickly. were no security breaches and no data was lost.”
Less than a week before local elections in the Scandinavian nation, which is one of Ukraine’s most ardent backers, the same cyber organization said on Wednesday that it had attacked multiple Danish towns.
