Bangladesh, Maldives to strengthen cooperation in education, religious, cultural sectors

To advance their current bilateral ties, Bangladesh and the Maldives have decided to further deepen their cooperation in the fields of education, religion, and culture.

The Maldives Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, and Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives, Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, had a courtesy call today to discuss this matter, according to a news release from the Bangladesh High Commission in Male today.

Both parties decided at the conference to increase religious participation among Bangladeshi expatriates, encourage the sharing of Islamic knowledge, and increase the number of Maldivian students who can attend Bangladeshi colleges to further their education.

They also emphasized the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon between the relevant ministries of both countries to structure the cooperation more effectively.

The MoU is expected to facilitate the exchange of experts, Islamic scholars, and academicians.

“The Zakat management system of Bangladesh is a commendable model and can be replicated in our country,” the Maldivian minister observed, praising Bangladesh’s role in human resource development, education, and social welfare.

He also emphasized how important it is to deepen the two countries’ religious ties.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner emphasized the need of increasing educational cooperation between the two nations and promised Bangladesh’s complete assistance in these areas.

He suggested expanding Maldivian students’ access to higher education at Bangladeshi universities.

The Maldivian minister said that his administration is considering the proposal and will offer institutional and financial assistance to Maldivian students who choose to study in Bangladesh.
