Today, at the Adviser’s office in the Bangladesh Secretariat, visiting Pakistan’s Minister of Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with Sk. Bashir Uddin, the Adviser to the Ministries of Commerce, Textiles and Jute, and Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations between Bangladesh and Pakistan was a top priority for both parties during the summit. According to a news statement from the Commerce Ministry, they also talked about how to increase the amount of current trade and find new investment opportunities.
Sk. Bashir Uddin, an adviser, stated that as Bangladesh and Pakistan have strong historical and cultural ties, it is essential to improve their economic ties as well.
He mentioned that after more than a decade and a half of inactivity, the Bangladesh-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) has been revived to boost trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. The Adviser also underscored the need to remove existing barriers and enhance trade facilitation.
According to Pakistani Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Bangladesh and Pakistan have a plethora of unexplored trade and investment prospects. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to advance trade cooperation in order to elevate bilateral ties to new heights.
Imran Haider, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, and Mahbubur Rahman, the Commerce Secretary, also attended the meeting.
