The impending Jatiya Sangsad election is clear because the interim administration is prepared to help the Election Commission conduct the polls, according to Brig Gen (retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, the Adviser for Shipping and Labor and Employment.
“The objective of the interim government is now clear that we are holding the election. The responsibility for organizing the election lies entirely with the Election Commission, and there is no scope for government interference. The interim government will only provide necessary assistance,” he said.
Sakhawat made the comments after inaugurating the newly constructed three-storey terminal building at Betua River Port in Charfession upazila of Bhola district.
“Once upon a time, hilsa fish were abundant in the Padma River, but now they migrate down through Chandpur to Bhola. At present, the largest number of hilsa comes from Bhola” said the adviser.
“Our main goal is to work for the welfare of the marginalized people, and that is exactly what we are doing,” he added.
Among those in attendance were Assistant Commissioner (Land) Emadul Hossain, Charfession Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Rasna Sharmin Mithi, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Charfession Circle) Mehedi Hasan, and Chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Commodore Arif Ahmed Mustafa.
The adviser officially opened the recently built pontoon at the Gachir Khal launch terminal in the Nurabad Union of Charfession upazila later that day.
