Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the adviser for the environment, forests, climate change, and water resources, urged the OIC member nations to cooperate in order to guarantee water security, access, and sustainability. “It is essential for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries to work together to ensure water security, its sustainable use and access to water for all,” he said. According to a ministry press statement issued today, the adviser made the comments while speaking at the Islamic Conference of Ministers in Charge of Water’s fifth session in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
“Water is not just a natural resource; it is the foundation of life, development, and peace,” she added. Only by the combined efforts and collaboration of OIC nations can the future of sustainable water be guaranteed. As for the global water situation,
The adviser noted that freshwater contamination, declining groundwater levels, rising salinity in coastal regions, and climate change are all significantly worsening.
“To address these challenges, joint research and exchange of experiences among OIC countries and increased investment in sustainable water management are needed,” she opined. Syeda Rizwana Hasan and Engineer Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, the Saudi Arabian Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, met bilaterally on the fringes of the conference.
The adviser requested Saudi collaboration during the discussion in climate-resilient water supply systems and rainfall collecting for safe drinking water in Bangladesh’s coastal salty districts.
She stated at the time that in order to improve regional cooperation in water governance, capacity building, and information sharing, the Bangladeshi government is interested in forming long-term partnerships with OIC members.
