Metrorail authorities to charge Tk 100 for entering stations without journey purpose

Metrorail authorities have announced that from now on, anyone entering stations without the purpose of traveling will have to pay Taka 100 when their rapid pass is scanned at the concourse floor.

The state-run Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), which operates the Metrorail service, issued a notice stating that nobody will be allowed to enter the concourse areas of its stations without scanning their passes for an actual journey.

A Metrorail official said the rule prevents entry and exit from the same station without taking a ride, and the money will be deducted from the person’s rapid pass.

The rule has been enforced since October 20 to curb misuse by people who travel without scanning rapid passes, Deputy Secretary of DMTCL Md Zahidul Islam said.

He added that the metro rail authorities often lost revenue due to some dishonest people boarding trains without scanning their rapid passes.

“But genuine passengers will be able to exit from the same station without any charge. After entering the station or platform, passengers must visit the counter and explain their situation. The responsible official at the counter will then arrange a safe exit without any charge,” he said.

Previously, passengers could enter a station and exit without taking a journey and without any charge.
